It’s 5am but not in my mind. I’m currently still working to GMT and I am CONFUSED.
Which is a great state to be in, because I’m finally off to UMass Amherst today (well, if the Peter Pan bus will take my luggage …).
Only issue: I have no bedding, because I was too cheap to buy into the UMass stuff. Is it easy enough to get to Walmart if you can’t drive? Else I’ll just have to Amazon it and sleep under my coat tonight.
So, I was just scrolling through the Umass tag and saw you were coming! It's always exciting to see the study abroad people post on tumblr about my school :D It's a great place! Hopefully you meet plenty of americans- I know that a lot of the exchange students get stuck with other exchange students. Are you living in Cashin or Brett?
Wheeler! IE - the mysterious hall no-one seems to know about. I think getting Central might mean that I meet more Americans which is great, because I fancy really trying to integrate myself.
We were there doing informal dissertation research (about Nerdfighters and YouTube ‘celebrity’ culture.
I also got the worlds most awkward photo with KickThePJ, mostly because I went up to him, mentioned that I’m friends with his flatmate, and then took the worlds most awkward photo ever, before leaving without saying thanks.
So, y’know, it was fun. I think I’d probably do it next year, just because I’m within near reach of London, it’s free, and the people we met were lovely. Ta especially to the people who answered the questions we were asking, and the people who gave us sweets. And apologies to anyone I scratched up by wearing sequins.
So I’ve decided to start reading those books Cassie Clare wrote, since I bask in the controversy surrounding most writers who were former fanficcers. (That said, I’m still a little angry that Jaida Jones’ legitimately entertaining books ain’t lined up for a film.)
These books are essentially HP to some degree, aren’t they?
I never did read CC’s fan fiction, but you can sense even just from these books that she really fucking liked Draco Malfoy.
Which brings us to Valentine, who is essentially just sexy Voldemort.
Who is being played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who seems to be rebuilding his career from the ground up post alcoholism/rehab/racism etc etc.
Aidan Turner, on the other hand, surely doesn’t need to be doing this so WHY.
Speaking of Jaida Jones as well, WHY throw in the most awkward references to her? CC seemingly couldn’t stop herself from throwing in a load of awkward fandom references in general.
That aside, they’re entertaining in a bog standard YA kind of way.
